Strengthening the Stellenbosch Community: The Impact of Pebbles Project and Collaborative Efforts
Pebbles Project, a non-profit organisation based in Stellenbosch, is dedicated to enabling children and young adults from farming communities to reach their full potential through education, health, and nutrition services. With a focus on serving farmworker communities in and around Stellenbosch, Pebbles Project plays a crucial role in providing essential support to over 1300 beneficiaries, aged 0 – 25 years.
One of our key initiatives is the Pebbles Clinic, located on Villiera Wine farm in Stellenbosch, which offers free health services to all beneficiaries under the age of 25. By providing accessible and affordable healthcare to the community, Pebbles Project addresses the challenges faced by local government clinics and ensures timely and efficient care for its beneficiaries. In addition to its impact in Stellenbosch, Pebbles Project has expanded its reach to include areas such as Somerset West, Wellington, Citrusdal, and more.
Collaboration as the cornerstone
Collaboration is a cornerstone of Pebbles Project’s work, “We value collaboration with other organisations, since we believe that one can always learn from each other,” says Liesl Ahlers, Fundraiser for Pebbles Project. By fostering partnerships with organisations like Surf4Life, Pebbles Project is able to offer unique opportunities, such as surf lessons, to its beneficiaries. The organisation’s dedication to collaboration extends to networking events, seminars, and workshops, where they actively seek out opportunities to learn from and work with others.
Organisations like Pebbles Project can strengthen their impact and establish sustainable foundations by sharing skills, knowledge, and resources. Collaborating with ABBA Stellenbosch, ACVV Stellenbosch, and Community Keepers allows Pebbles Project to combine efforts and effectively serve the Stellenbosch community.
Connecting through SCAN
SCAN’s efforts to connect non-profits and share opportunities for youth training have been instrumental in supporting Pebbles Project’s Early Adulthood Programme. The open communication pathway provided by SCAN has enabled Pebbles Project to forge meaningful partnerships and expand its reach within the community.
Connection that impacts a community
A personal testimony from Michelle, a young adult born on Bellevue wine farm and whose life was transformed by Pebbles Project’s partnership with Boland College, exemplifies the impact of collaborative efforts. “My family is very proud of me. I am also proud of myself, especially when I look at where I started compared to where I am now,” expressed Michelle.
Michelle’s journey from attending the Pebbles After School Club to graduating from college and securing a permanent position at Hillebrand GORI as a Documentation Administrator is a testament to the transformative power of education and support. Michelle’s story is a reminder of the importance of perseverance, commitment, and the role that organisations like Pebbles Project play in empowering individuals to achieve their dreams.
“Pebbles is a life changing organisation, they make it their mission to assist you in achieving your dreams. Pebbles had a big impact on my life.”
Pebbles Project’s commitment to strengthening the Stellenbosch community through education, health, and collaboration is a shining example of the positive impact that non-profit organisations can have. By working together and leveraging partnerships, organisations like Pebbles Project are able to create lasting change and uplift communities in meaningful ways.
